Lashes

Can I wear mascara after a lash tint?

You can. You probably won’t want to.

Yes. Nothing bad happens to the tint if you put mascara on over it. Leave it until the next day if you can, though, and you may find you don’t bother at all.

That’s rather the point. An eyelash tint darkens your lashes from root to tip, right out to the fine, fair ends that mascara never quite reaches. Plenty of people leave the bar and realise their lashes were longer than they thought. The tips were just too pale to see.

The first 24 hours

For the first day, keep your lashes away from water as much as you can, skip the steam room and hold off on mascara. It isn’t a disaster if you forget. It just gives the colour its best start.

What fades a tint

Oil-based make-up removers and cleansing balms, more than anything else. If you do wear mascara over your tint, take it off with a water-based remover, pressing gently rather than scrubbing.

Waterproof mascara is the other one. It’s made not to budge, so getting it off means a lot of rubbing, which is bad for the tint and worse for your lashes.

How long it lasts

Usually four to six weeks. It doesn’t wash out so much as grow out, as your lashes shed and replace themselves. When the new ones start coming through pale, it’s time to book again.

Who it’s good for

Holidays, swimming, the gym, anyone whose mascara has slid halfway down their face by lunchtime. Fair and red lashes most of all. Add an eyebrow tint and you’ve got the whole look sorted without opening a make-up bag.

You’ll need a patch test at least 24 hours before your first lash tint. We’d advise 24 to 48.
