Threading

What can you have threaded? More than your brows.

Upper lip, chin, sides, the lot. Every area we do, and what to expect.

Most people come to the bar for their brows. Quite a few then sit in the chair quietly wondering whether we’d do the bit above their lip while they’re there. We would. We do it all day long.

Threading works the same way wherever it goes. A length of cotton thread is twisted and rolled across the skin, catching each hair and lifting it out from the root. No wax, no heat, nothing left behind on your skin, which is why it’s so good on the finer, more sensitive parts of the face where wax tends to drag.

Every area on our menu

The upper lip takes about ten minutes. After brows it’s the one people book most, and the one they’re most relieved to have sorted.

Lower lip, five minutes. Often forgotten until you spot it in a car mirror.

Chin, ten minutes. Good for the few stubborn, coarser hairs that seem to turn up overnight.

Forehead, ten minutes. Takes away the fine fuzz that catches the light and stops foundation sitting smoothly.

Sides of the face, ten minutes, tidying along the cheek and down towards the jaw.

Middle brow, five minutes. The bit between your brows. It’s usually done as part of a brow shape, but you can book it on its own to tide you over between appointments.

Neck, ten minutes.

Full face, thirty minutes. Everything in one sitting, if you’d rather do it all at once.

Will it hurt?

It stings a little, more on the upper lip than anywhere else, and it’s over quickly. Most first-timers tell us it was less than they’d braced themselves for. Any redness usually settles within the hour, so you can go straight back to your day.

Thread or wax?

For brows and small areas we’d thread every time. On larger areas with thicker growth, like the sides of the face or a full face, wax is a fair alternative and some people simply prefer it. Ask at the bar and we’ll tell you which we’d choose for your skin.

Good to know

There’s no patch test, because nothing goes on your skin. If you use retinoids or other strong skincare, tell us: threading is usually the kinder option then, as wax can lift skin that’s been thinned by actives. We won’t thread over broken skin, spots or sunburn.

Most people come back for a tidy every two to three weeks, depending on how quickly their hair grows.
